Portal | Los Angeles

 
Upon the great reception of our first project Nightstream, the people from Night on Broadway reached out again and asked us to participate in the new festival. The festival lead by Government Official in Los Angeles, Jose Huizar gathered more people than the previous year an amount of 100,000 people experienced our artwork in one night. Portal is a streetscape interactive artwork that places the festival attendees within an augmented reality. The two screens function as a “portal” where the people can see themselves not only on the present but also in the past. A combination of realtime camera captures the people then that input is layered with animations and live feeds creating the sense of being in “another world” beyond the physical but still very tied to the physical space. The project was a great success and it became at the end a selfie machine.

I co-imagined the experience was responsible for designing the presentation that got us sponsorship from Optoma and I created portal animations that gave the artwork that sense of the other worldly and the sublime.
